The Metineve Bridge

The view above is looking into The Fields of Orange. The Bridge crosses the Metineve River almost directly at its center point from The Deep to Vanco Bay where it empties. The river provides a natural border separating the Gumdrop Kingdom and the Northern Fields of Orange. The bridge is part of the Kings Road originally build by the Gumdrops. However, the bridge itself was build by a partnership of Red, Blue and Orange Gummie Bears. The stone for the bridge was quarried from the base of Mount Akbar by the Red Gummie Bears and transported to the Metineve River by the Blues who also provided the timber scaffolding for construction. The Oranges provided most of the actual build labor under the guidance of the Red Gummie Bears.

The Bridge itself is approximately one hundred seventy five feet long with a road width of roughly fourteen feet to allow plenty of room for two carts to pass each other. The height is twenty eight feet on average in the center but varies with the time of year and the flow of water from the Deep. This is the only northern land crossing point into The Fields of Orange.

The Legend of the Fallen Moon

Long ago, there were two moons. The couple shared the sky from the dusk to the dawn watching over the land. Together they bathed the night in light, driving back the darkness and giving guidance to travelers. One day, there was a flicker in the heavens, fiery rocks began to rain down. To protect the land, the moons moved into the path of the storm, blocking most of the rocky rain from destroying the land. However, in doing so, the smaller of the two moons cracked and broke into pieces. Great chunks of the moon fell towards the land, striking the mountains and the Deep. In time the remaining debris of the cracked moon joined with the other to become the one moon.

From the pieces of the crushed moon that were fortunate enough to fall into the Deep, the River Wisps were created. They appear as ethereal, ghostly trails of color that light up the night. The River Wisps are said to protect the Metineve and Holden Rivers. They can be found above the waters, around the worn bedrock escarpments along the rivers and are attracted to large stone structures such as the Metineve Bridge. It is a good fortune for travelers to see the River Wisps. They present themselves only to a choosen few. Dancing in the hope that the one moon may see them and be joyful.

It is said, high in a valley in the mountains east of the Deep, the last remains of the fallen moon still survive. If a pure fragment can be found and held, a Whisp may choose to appear, honoring the finder with warmth and light when needed. And... Protection in dire circumstances.
